Just after Fourth of July 2010, the ride closed to go into retheming for the 40th anniversary of the park. It was announced on August 3, 2010.

The ride closed February 5, 2012, for the construction of Lex Luthor: Drop of Doom. Two drop tower structures would be constructed and attached to the Superman structure. Alongside Drop of Doom, Superman: Escape from Krypton reopened July 7, 2012.

Once again, the ride was closed after Christmas 2012 for the construction of the park's coaster, Full ThrottleThe ride's supports would be placed in front of the ride's entrance. Planned to reopen with the coaster in spring, the attraction's reopening was moved to mid-January 2013.

Ride synopsis[]

Queue[]

Guests enter Superman's famous Fortress of Solitude. Modeled as Krypton, the Fortress glows green on the inside. The Fortress is also made to look like the Arctic.

Ride experience[]

Guests board one of two identical tracks, side-by-side. After a safety check and a final countdown, the vehicle speeds out of the station and up the 415-foot tower. Riders are airborne for several seconds, and then take the death-defying 328-foot plunge back into the station.
